Jill started riding at the age of six in a program similar to the one she now offers. Her early interest in riding has guided her professional and educational choices.

Jill moved to Vermont in 1984. Since then she has trained professionally for over three decades in jobs that varied from eventing, to driving, to competitive trail, to dressage and now TREC and Working EQ. During this time, she continued to pursue her own education completing the USDF Instructor Certification Program, obtaining her bronze medal, graduated from the ‘L” Program for dressage judging, completed the TREC Instructors course, became a TREC judge and is current President of the Board for the United States National Equestrian Tourism Organization.

She graduated from Smith College with her B.A. in biology with an environmental concentration. She taught in the Equine Program at Vermont Technical College and continues to take classes focused on her professional and personal interests.

Jill designed and built Delaney Stables in 2004, and has operated out of this facility ever since. Her knowledge and experience make her well-suited to work with riders and horses of all ages and levels. Her love of dressage, eventing, and the sport of TREC, bring fun into all aspects of working with horses.

Through it all, she has maintained sight of her primary focus:

Excellence in training and teaching.

Jill Delaney has been teaching my children horsemanship for years. Jill’s ability to inspire them by presenting them with exactly the skills that they are ready to learn has kept them challenged, actively engaged, and progressing in their capabilities. She seeks their input in setting specific goals for what they want to accomplish, and helps them work to achieve those ends.

“My young grand daughters took riding lessons at Delaney Stables for several years. From the very  beginning, they were welcomed and made to feel part of the stable environment, learning the basic skills of currying, tacking up the pony, and riding. Jill’s excellent and upbeat instruction is especially effective with children, but I’ve  spoken with adult students who are equally pleased. Jill is sensitive to her students’ moods on any particular day, and effectively focuses their attention on the lesson at hand. The girls have learned to be responsible for a 1,000  pound animal, and to control and appreciate the ponies they ride. In the process, they have developed confidence and respect. At this point, our grand daughters are gleefully cantering around the arena, and controlling their ponies with increasing skill. I highly recommend Jill Delaney and Delaney Stables for anyone seeking equestrian excellence.”
